20 Most Important Players In The Premier League 2014/15
8. Mauricio Isla
During pre-season, Harry Redknapp made it very clear that the purchase of Stephen Caulker was to slot into a back three with Richard Dunne and Rio Ferdinand. While both aforementioned defenders bring a wealth of experience to the top flight table, a different summer signing catches the eye. Drafted in from Serie A champions Juventus, Mauricio Isla has been well accustomed to slotting in as right wing-back for both club and country, though at the Bianconeri his game-time was limited by the expertise of Swiss international Stephan Lichtsteiner. Blessed with the stamina required to tirelessly work his way up and done the touchline and with the offensive quality to create space for a cross in advanced areas, the Chilean will be a pivotal cog in Redknapp's new system. His final ball needs improvement, with many Juve fans somewhat frustrated by the former Udinese wide man's contribution in the final third, but his physical attributes are excellent. Having played in intense pressing systems under Jorge Sampaoli and well-measured shape with Antonio Conte, Isla knows exactly what is expected from him - but whether he can find his Udinese form at Loftus Road remains to be seen.
