Fierce inter-city rivalries usually generate more bizarre behaviour than standard football matches, especially contests as intense as the Second City derby between Birmingham and Aston Villa. No incident was more inexplicable than goalkeeper Peter Enckelman's infamous error en route to a 3-0 Birmingham victory. The Finnish keeper somehow allowed teammate Olaf Mellberg's throw in to trickle underneath his foot and into the goal, prompting several Blues fans to invade the pitch and taunt him. One was even jailed for four months as a result.
