When Rangers were all over the front and back pages of newspapers in 2012, liquidation of the business side of the club seemed to be something Scottish football relished rather than feared. Instead of realising that they were discarding their most famous and instantly-recognisable club, teams and their supporters lined up to take a shot at Rangers. In amongst all this hullabaloo was the notion that the Gers could be feasibly stripped of titles if they were found guilty of the various charges they were castigated for. Before any verdict was served in court, there were programs all over television saying that Rangers were guilty, which is shameful now - even a former Celtic director, along with then-manager Neil Lennon, called for the club to be stripped of honours. This has all calmed down in the years since, and Rangers have been recognised as the exact same club as before by UEFA and the Scottish football authorities. This means the club still hold the record for most league titles, 54. The most recent top flight title came in 2011, but since then Rangers have won both the Third Division and League One championships, although those aren't counted onto the tally. Celtic are the nearest challengers with 46 top flight titles.
