20 Worst Squads In FIFA World Cup History
4. El Salvador (1982)
El Salvador were always going to be featured in this list for their 1982 World Cup venture, but it's amazing to think there are still three teams who did worse than them.
El Salvador entered their second World Cup finals in 1982 and were drawn against Belgium, Hungary and Argentina in the group stages. Hopeful to improve on thier 1970 campaign, El Salvador's optimism was swiftly shattered in their opening game.
On 15th June 1982, Hungary recorded the biggest World Cup victory ever when they defeated El Salvador 10-1 in their opening group stage match. To make matters worse, Hungary didn't even qualify from the group! They lost 1-4 to Argentina in the second game and were held to a draw by Belgium.
El Salvador went on to lose 0-1 to Belgium in their second game before finishing up with a 0-2 loss to Argentina, meaning they left the tournament with a painful goal difference of -12.
