Fernando Alonso made an aggressive four-stop strategy work in the sunshine of Barcelona, turning a third-row start into his first Barcelona victory since 2006 in a beautifully balanced Ferrari that seemed entirely hooked up. After biding his time early on, he then stretched his lead and cruised home to a comfortable victory in front of his home fans, his 32nd overall which leaves him fourth in the all time standings behind Prost, Senna and Schumacher. He led home Kimi Raikkonen for his third second-place finish this year and teammate Massa after a strong drive from ninth on the grid, underlining the pace of the Ferrari. Tyres and degradation was again an issue, but far less so than it had been three weeks previously in Bahrain.
