2013 Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix – Fernando Alonso Shows Barcelona Brilliance
Looking Ahead Monaco. The mere name is magical, reminiscent of so many incredible F1 races, drivers and tunnel crashes. The jewel in Formula 1s crown embraces everything about the sport it seems, with a tight, classic street circuit, glamour, boats in the harbour, parties and money. With the soft and super-soft tyres on offer for Monte Carlo, and lots of braking and traction zones on a green circuit laid just once a year for this spectacular event, tyre problems are likely to be abound in the French sunshine in two weeks time. Qualifying is an event well worth watching, as grid position is critical at a circuit with so few places to overtake, and DRS having little impact on the short straight. While teams will need to consider tyre strategy carefully, they cant risk ending up too far down the grid as to find themselves unable to get to the front when they have the tyres. Last year, Schumacher stole pole position in the dying moments to show us he still had it in him, and in the race Mark Webber led home a slithering pack in the rain on slick tyres, with the top six covered by just six seconds. With that kind of excitement available at one of Formula 1s most soulful venue, I cant wait.
