2019–20 UEFA Champions League Best XI

9. Marquinhos - PSG

Though he played the majority of PSG's European games as a DM, Marquinhos' natural position is still in the heart of defence and, with the departure of club legend Thiago Silva, is where the Brazilian will most likely find himself back in the seasons ahead. Energetic and competent at recycling the ball, he often drops into the backline and plays at the head of a back three and allowing PSG's wing backs to maraud forward.

It's a crucial cog in Tuchel's system, and it's no surprise to see Marquinhos played in every minute of the Parisian's Champions League campaign, save for twenty minutes in the opening group game against Real Madrid where his side were already 2-0 up.

Not only did Marquinhos play a vital role in a side that kept seven clean sheets and only conceded nine goals across the whole competition, but he arguably looked like PSG's most attacking threat at times. Netting crucial goals in the quarter final and semi final fixtures against Atalanta and RB Leipzig, his aerial threat made him a real nuisance for opposing defenders to deal with and so often made the difference when the likes of Mbappe and Neymar weren't firing.

Passionate and driven on the pitch, he picked up the captain's armband twice during the Parisian's run to the final and looks set to be one of the building blocks Thomas Tuchel will base his side around in the coming seasons.
