2019–20 UEFA Champions League Best XI
8. Dayot Upamecano - RB Leipzig
One of the Fifa career mode favourites, Dayot Upamecano's performances over the course of RB Leipzig's run to the Champions League semi-finals shows exactly why he's been touted as a possible signing for all of Europe's biggest clubs. He played in all but two of Leipzig's games during the 2019-20 Champions League, with Julian Nagelsmann mainly deploying him at his favoured centre back position but occasionally asking him to fill out at right back and as a DM.
The archetypal modern defender, Upamecano has established himself as being more than competent with the ball at his feet, taking it forward and stringing a series of passes together. He averaged a pass success rate of 87.2% from around 66 passes per ninety over the course of the Champions League, with his 4.5 completed long balls per game showcasing the immense diversity to his game.
Keeping two clean sheets across Leipzig's round of sixteen fixtures against Tottenham was undoubtedly the high point of Upamecano's campaign, and the German giants would only lose twice over the course of their record run to the semis with the French defender in the side.
