7 Villains (And 3 Heroes) From Swansea 2-0 Newcastle
Daryl Janmaat. And a whole host of others...
Newcastle United were humbled by Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday. The Swans beat The Magpies by two goals to nil in a game that could have been any score in favour of the home side. Garry Monk's men had 18 shots on goal before half time which tells you everything you need to know. All the promise United showed last week in the draw with Southampton evaporated in a display that harked back to the days of the John Carver era. This is a major rebuilding job Steve McClaren has on his hands. Newcastle were never at the races (which may have you questioning how we managed to find three 'heroes', but we did) and matters weren't helped when full back Daryl Janmaat was sent off for persistent fouling on his, and the team as a whole's tormentor in chief Jefferson Montero. Goals from former Newcastle targets Bafétimbi Gomis and Andre Ayew settled the game on the day and left Magpies' fans dreading the next couple of months. This is because The Toon have a torrid run of fixtures which includes games against the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City. There's a good chance Newcastle will be in the bottom three half way through October - before they face games at home to Norwich and away to Sunderland... So here we go then, here's the heroes and the villains from Saturday's fixture.
