4 Liverpool Fans Who Flopped As Players On Merseyside
3. Charlie Adam (July 2011 - August 2012)
Scottish international Charlie Adam signed for Liverpool following an excellent debut Premier League campaign with Blackpool, with Kenny Dalglish paying £6.75 million for his services. (Source: BBC Sport) Adam was the catalyst for Blackpool's eye-catching performances in the the 2010-11 season, offering goals and inspiration from midfield and winning plenty of admirers in the process, in fact Liverpool had a January bid turned down by Blackpool. (Source: Daily Telegraph) However following their inevitable relegation, Blackpool were unable to resist Liverpool's overtures in the summer and the Reds eventually got their man. Initially deployed as a deeper lying midfielder, alongside Brazilian Lucas Leiva, Adam did not dictate games with the same authority and instead relied more on his defensive instincts. Without doing anything specifically wrong, Adam seemed to become something of a scapegoat for Liverpool's sharp decline towards the end of the season, as along with fellow new signings Stewart Downing and Andy Carroll, he was deemed not good enough and endemic of Dalglish's outdated tactics. He would soon be sold to Stoke after a mediocre spell with the Reds.
