5 Blockbuster Fights UFC Should Make (And 5 They Never Did)
9. Should Book - Max Holloway Vs. Cody Garbrandt
With the exception of Conor McGregor, the UFC's lower weight classes face a dearth of big money fights to make. The company has an established, not-so-hidden bias towards the heavier, more knockout friendly weight classes and unless a talent has a truly transcendent, larger-than-life personality, such as McGregor or Anthony "Crazy Kicks" Pettis, they mostly let the smaller fighters fend for themselves, promotional-wise.
With that said, a showdown between newly minted featherweight champion Max Holloway and bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt has all the makings of a blockbuster bout. Both men are young, 25 and 26 respectively, both men are dangerous, dynamic strikers, and both men don't seem particularly fond of each other. Even better, they both won their titles from legends in their divisions, with Holloway knocking out featherweight GOAT Jose Aldo in under three rounds and Garbrandt pummeling Dominick Cruz from bell to bell.
A champion vs. champion fight between two young, charismatic, legend killing fighters like Holloway and Garbrandt would make big bucks and it would be a great way to promote the lower weight classes, all of which are packed with talented fighters that deserve more visibility.
