5 Borussia Mönchengladbach Players Newcastle Must Be Wary Of

Lucien Favre's side finished third in the Bundesliga last season and they are still improving.

Newcastle United will face Borussia Mönchengladbach at St James' Park on Saturday 3pm kick-off) in their final pre-season friendly of the summer - and they have a significant task ahead. New signing Chancel Mbemba is available to play but Steve McClaren will be keen to grab a win as his team approach their first Premier League game against Southampton next weekend. It won't be easy in this last pre-season friendly though. Die Borussen finished third in the Bundesliga last season and coach Lucien Favre has turned them into a well-organised unit. Favre has gone back to basics and mainly plays a fluid 4-4-2 formation that encourages the wide midfielders to merge into the middle and pack the central areas. The players have bought into the strategy and, when they begin attack as a unit, they are beautiful to watch. For the first time in the club's history Borussia will take part in the Champions League this season and have intelligently scouted the market to make sure they are adequately equipped for the tournament. For around £17 million they have added six players to their side and will be an exciting force in both the Bundesliga and in Europe. Newcastle United will be desperate to demonstrate to their faithful that the club has improved since their last home fixture against West Ham United in May and will no doubt field new signings Aleksandar Mitrovic and Georginio Wijnaldum, who will both get their first taste of St James' Park action. Die Borussen face Borussia Dortmund away from home in their first fixture of new Bundesliga season and will also be keen to impress.
