5. Arsenal
With Mourinho already owning a house in the London area and Arsenal's fate still in the balance, the two go hand-in-hand. If Wenger fails to qualify for the Champions League this season in conjunction with the Frenchman's eight consecutive years without a trophy, it's hard to see Arsene staying at Arsenal much longer. Despite finding success and purchasing young, talented players who have gone on to succeed elsewhere, Arsenal have struggled all too often and the fans are starting to lose patience with the board. So, why do I believe Mourinho would work his magic at Arsenal? Firstly, the side has a solid group of players - from the likes of Vermaelen and Arteta to the youngsters Wilshere and Walcott. Although it is hard to argue that their side is good enough to win trophies and progress in the Champions League, the foundations are built and if the board are willing to stump up some cash then there is potential. The club are in dire need for a consistent goalscorer. Olivier Giroud has been somewhat prolific but lacks the consistency that Robin van Persie achieved during the last campaign. Theo Walcott is a fine player but, similar to Giroud, lacks consistency but dissimilar to the Frenchman, does not have the towering height to compete in the air. If Mourinho can splash the cash on the likes of Edinson Cavani, Gonzalo Higuain or even Christian Benteke, that would be one big problem solved. The second reason is that Mourinho is the sort of manager that walks into a dressing room and gets the best out of certain players. Under the guidance of the Portuguese boss, Cristiano Ronaldo has had some fine seasons for Real, Diego Lopez has been world class and Raphael Varane has grown leaps and bounds. Now imagine who will be the individuals to step up to the plate if he were to take over Arsenal - would Walcott or Giroud find the consistency they so badly need, would Santi Cazorla show the glimmers of genius he occasionally showed throughout the season or will Szczesny show the form that he produced just a season or two ago? Under Wenger, a lot of players have bright spells but it is rare that a player is able to put in performance after performance. Lastly the lure of having Mourinho as a boss could help the club attract players massively. It is hard to see why a hugely sought-after player like Cavani, Falcao or Gomez would opt for a club like Arsenal rather than a title hopeful such as Real Madrid or Manchester United, and this is why the appointment of the ex-Chelsea boss could be brilliant. If José did manage to attract some of the bigger names in football at the moment and snatch them away from Premier League rivals, this would be a massive boost for the club and could change their luck from fourth place chasers to title challengers. Imagine what a Mourinho-managed side featuring the likes of Wilshere, Hamsik and Di Natale in midfield, for example, could achieve.
