5 Heroes & Villains From NUFC 1-1 West Brom

1. Ayoze Perez

No surprises on this one - Ayoze Perez popped up with his with his second goal in as many home matches and that has helped give the Magpies their first point since February 28th, so he is most certainly the hero of the weekend. During October and November, Perez excelled and bagged winners against Tottenham Hotspur, West Brom (at The Hawthorns) and Liverpool, and suddenly he was being touted as one of the best young players in the Premier League. However, a difficult few months followed for Perez and he struggled to lead the line of an abject Newcastle side who provided him with little service. Now the match against West Brom on Saturday was hardly one of Perez's best all-round performances in a black-and-white-striped shirt - with the forward only managing a solitary shot all game - but he took his opportunity brilliantly. Collecting Ryan Taylor's half-cleared free-kick, Perez expertly picked his spot in the far corner of the net and guided the ball through a crowded penalty box and past Boaz Myhill. Newcastle were industrious against West Brom but lacked quality. Perez's magic was the solitary bit of quality the Magpies provided all game. Let's hope there's a few more moments just like that before the season is out.
