5 Inspired Sunderland Free Transfers (And 5 Total Disasters)

The Best - 5. David Vaughan

The list starts with David Vaughan, one of the most underused, underrated Sunderland players over the last few years. Vaughan was a solid midfielder who would've worked very well if the rest of the midfield hadn't been made in the same, diminutive mould. His passing skills were excellent, and rarely lost the ball, even if he did go missing at times during games. However, his crowning moment came in the first 3-0 derby win over Newcastle United, with the midfielder belting home a glorious strike to seal the famous victory. For that reason alone, he earned a place in Wearside folklore, and cost less than what every Sunderland fan paid to be there that day.
