5 Key Races That All Motorsport Fans Should Consider Going To See

2. Daytona 24 Hours (United States)

dayto Classed as America's endurance race, the Daytona 24 Hours isn't quite as popular as the famous Indianapolis 500 race, but the 24 hour race has been around since it started in 1966. It's held on the same track where they hold the AMA Superbike races and the soon to be forgotten Rolex Grand Am series. For some of the American endurance racing fans, it's a great opportunity to take their RV motorhomes into the middle of the circuit to get a closer view of the cars going by. Daytona's atmosphere is similar to that at Le Mans - it's always a good atmosphere where you can have some fun of a night time while the race is still going on, and you can also watch the action from the grandstands which is opposite the pits so you can see all the pitstop action. One of the past winners had surprisingly been the French-run Dodge Viper Oreca Team in 2000, beating stiff competition from the Cadillac LMP's and their big rivals the Chevrolet Corvettes. In 2014 the endurance race will definitly return, but it'll be part of a new merger championship that will involve the Rolex Grand Am Series and the American Le Mans Series. How successfull will this new merger championship be, well only time will tell on that, but at least the fans will be able to enjoy that Daytona experience still from 2014 onwards.
