5 Most Significant Moments When Alistair Overeem Hurt UFC

1. His Failed Pre-Fight Drug Test Before UFC 146

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPvKOqMqH8s While it may seem strange to not put one of his actual losses in the top spot, Overeem€™s failed drug test is still by far the most demoralizing moment in his UFC career . There was an enormous around of hype around his fight against Junior Dos Santos at UFC 146. If you look at both fighters at the time, they were coming off the biggest wins of their respective careers. Dos Santos knocked out Cain Velasquez on Fox to win the heavyweight championship in front of around eight million viewers. A month later, Overeem annihilated former UFC champion Brock Lesnar with ease. Lesnar was the biggest pay-per-draw in UFC history, which opened everyone€™s eyes to how special Overeem is. They saw a freak specimen, who had incredible striking and great takedown defense. Then Dos Santos had been either knocking out all of his opponents or picking them apart like what he did to Shane Carwin. With both fighters being so accomplished in the striking department, fans were drooling over this main event. This could have very well been the greatest heavyweight bout in MMA history. Instead Overeem failed a pre-fight drug test and the fans were left devastated. There had always been rumors about Overeem taking PED€™s. There were glaring photos of his growth from being a limber light heavyweight to a massive heavyweight. This failed test justified those accusations and his reputation took a massive hit. In the past two years, he€™s had the opportunity to fight Dos Santos. He€™s pulled out due to an injury on both occasions leaving fans once again disappointed.
