5 Most Significant Moments When Alistair Overeem Hurt UFC

2. Being Knocked Out By Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miLMTesefmo His loss to Antonio Silva was one of the biggest upsets in this decade. He was a heavy favorite at (-400) and joined a promising team known as the Blackzilians. Despite Junior Dos Santos losing to Cain Velasquez at UFC 155, people were anticipating Velasquez against Overeem. While Brock Lesnar was a major star, Velasquez was practically a better version of Lesnar. Many people were viewing Velasquez vs. Overeem to happen on the big Memorial Day weekend pay-per-view. That never came to fruition, as Silva landed a vicious combo to pull off the dramatic upset. It was a lethargic performance from Overeem, where he never got his striking going. He was clinching far too often and didn't land anything special when having top position following a takedown. We didn€™t see the kick-boxing exhibition that many were expecting to see. Instead he was arrogant and eventually gassed himself out by the end of the second round. After being hit clean by a head kick, he never recovered as Silva tagged him repeatedly until he dropped dramatically to the canvas. It was a telling end to the €œUbereem era€. His five-and-half years of being undefeated ended definitively in what was supposed to be his warm-up fight. This led to people questioning his ability to be successful without taking PED€™s. The buzz about beating a superstar like Brock Lesnar was gone. As Dana White said in this particular video blog, both Velasquez and Overeem missed out on making a lot of money from this loss.
