5 Premier League Teams Dramatically Better Since The Restart (And 5 Much Worse)
7. Better - Tottenham
There was a fair amount of mockery for the level of celebration two-time Champions League winner Jose Mourinho showed after his Tottenham side (last year's runners up in Europe's premier club competition) scraped a Europa League place.
In truth, however, Spurs' sixth place finish was indeed an impressive turnaround from their feeble early season form. Even after Mourinho was appointed there was only a mild upturn and the club went into the break eighth in the table, behind Sheffield United and just a couple of points above Burnley and Crystal Palace.
Five wins and only one defeat since the return, however, gives Tottenham some of the best post-lockdown form of any Premiership team, better than Liverpool or Chelsea.
That the break allowed Harry Kane a chance to recuperate from an injury that he would never have recovered from in a regular season certainly helped.
Four goals in two games from the England captain fired Spurs to late season victories against Leicester and Newcastle. But it was coming from a goal down to win the North London derby against an Arsenal team also looking for a post-lockdown resurgence that was the real highlight.
Added together these wins were enough to turn around a disaster of a season. Now at least there will still be European football played at Tottenham's top of the range new stadium once the fans are allowed back in.
