5 Reasons Newcastle Must Sell Papiss Cisse (And 5 Why They Shouldn't)

Reasons Why Newcastle Should Sell Him...

5. Cisse's Recent Disciplinary Record

Not only did Cisse serve a seven-match ban during the 2014-15 season for spitting at Manchester United defender Jonny Evans in March, the Senegalese forward was also suspended for three games after elbowing Everton's Seamus Coleman last December. Although he was not technically red carded throughout the entire campaign - and was only cautioned once all season - Cisse received retrospective bans totalling 10 games. That means that, for more than a quarter of the 2014-15 campaign, Cisse was unavailable for selection due to his own stupidity and ill-discipline. Not only did that cost his side, it also damaged the reputation of Newcastle United Football Club. The Magpies do not want to be associated with on-field violence, and they most-certainly do not want to have their reputation tarnished due to the fact that one of their players has been unable to control himself and keep his bodily fluids in his own mouth. It is unlikely that any forward Newcastle recruit to replace Cisse would have such a poor recent disciplinary record - and that would mean Steve McClaren would almost be guaranteed more playing time from them, while the club would not have to worry that their star striker is going to commit another ridiculous act that will bring them even greater negative press.
