5 Reasons Newcastle Must Sell Papiss Cisse (And 5 Why They Shouldn't)
3. Cisse Could Prove To Be A Valuable Back-Up Striker Even If Money Is Invested In A Forward
Should someone of the ilk of Charlie Austin, Bast Dost or Aleksandar Mitrovic arrive at St James' Park this summer, they would undoubtedly become the club's main man. A club as frugal and money-savvy as Newcastle United does not sign a £10 million-plus striker and then put them on the bench. However, even though these strikers would arrive on Tyneside with promising recent fitness records, you can never guarantee that they will stay healthy for too long. Freak injuries can cut down any player at any time - no matter who they are. For a start, the Magpies are already concerned about a weakness in Austin's shoulder - and by the fact he failed a medical at Hull City in 2013. Few clubs can boast back-up strikers of the quality of Cisse, yet Newcastle could feasibly do that if they keep the Senegalese forward on their books. If the Magpies really are serious about finishing in the upper-reaches of the Premier League table and winning a trophy then they need strength in depth - and retaining Cisse would give them that.
