5 Reasons Spurs Fans Should Put Their Trust in AVB

2. Tactics! SpursTactics

For the first time in a few years, Spurs are playing with a shape and strategy which works and suits every player on the pitch. No one is playing out of position just to make sure they're on the pitch, nothing is predictable, tactics are changed dependent on the opposition or the way a match is going, and no area of the field is suffering at the expense of any others (a focus on attack in some recent years has left the Spurs defence very weak and neglected at times). In past season's Luka ModriĀ‡ had been played on the left wing and Rafael van der Vaart had been played on the right wing just to include the two of them in the first eleven alongside the players taking up their chosen positions, which not only took away their ability to make an impact on games to the best of their potential, it also ultimately weakened the team as a unit. AVB doesn't do this. He either leaves out players who don't fit in to his formation or he plays a formation that correctly fits in the players he wants on the pitch. It's obvious really! This has resulted in Spurs looking as strong at the back as they have for years. They're also competing on a physical level in the middle of the park in a way Spurs fans aren't used to seeing. And they're as good going forward and counter-attacking as ever. It's great to see and long may it continue and keep improving.
