5 Reasons Why Swansea May Struggle To Avoid Relegation

5. Uninspired January Signings

In the summer of 2012, Swansea pulled off what many would describe as the bargain of the season, with £2m being paid to Rayo Vallecano for Michu. The 22 goals he contributed were integral to Swansea's successful season, and marked the Welsh side out as an example to follow in seeking out value in the transfer market. Wifried Bony proved a good addition in the summer, but it was plain to see Swansea needed further firepower, as goals were proving hard to come by with Michu enduring an injury-hit season. The January cavalry came in the shape of Middlesbrough striker Marvin Emnes on loan, who had managed only one goal in the Championship this term. As if that wasn't enough, Bolton striker David N'Gog also joined until the end of the season for an undisclosed fee. His record this season is four goals in 19 appearances, also in the Championship. Emnes and N'Gog may provide options, but they are cheap options, proven failures at Premier League level, and do not provide the impetus that Swansea fans will be hoping for. Pressure will be on at home to Cardiff City to prove that they have the goals in them to keep the Swans up.
