4. Duane Ludwig's influence
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoKNBJCweno To say Duane Ludwig has been influential to Team Alpha Male is an understatement. His 16-2 record in 2013 was downright remarkable. Mendes, Urijah Faber, Joseph Benavidez, and T.J Dillashaw were all wrestlers coming into MMA. Under the tutelage of Ludwig, theyve showcased their improvements in the striking department. Dillashaws emergence has become well documented from his incredible victory over Renan Barao. The other three dont get enough recognition, particularly Mendes. When he was in the WEC, most of his fights would go to decision. Now during his current five-fight win streak, he finished four of his fights by knockout. If it wasnt for a
sinus infection that affected his conditioning, he could have very well finished Lentz. His over hand right led to knocking out Darren Elkins and Yaotzin Meza in the first round. You can see from those knockouts in the upcoming video on how he continuously moves his head to stay unpredictable. He seemed to lack that in the early stages of his career. Mendes has admitted that Ludwig has helped him evolve as a fighter. We can see from his highlight reel from 2012 -2013 on why that quote is factual.
