1. Major Knockout Power
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMA9URX_xgo The last reason that has to be included involves his one-punch knockout power. You dont see many featherweight fights end in brutalizing fashion. Youll see mostly decisions or submissions or a stoppage on the ground. That isn't the case with Mendes, His knockouts consist of rushing in at a frantic pace that usually leads to either a straight or an overhand right. Darren Elkins was overwhelmed by it and never recovered from that barrage. There arent many featherweights that can make your jaw drop through sheer punching power. Mendes is one of the few that are capable of doing it, along with Jeremy Stephens. Aldo hasnt faced anyone that has power like this. Lamas has showcased vicious power, but that has mainly come through ground-and-pound. In his impressive victory over Erik Koch, it was from strictly ground-and-pound that finished him. Aldo's past opponents such as Edgar, Sung Jung, Hominick, and Kenny Florian have never been one-punch knockout specialists. Mendes has proven that in his last five fights by either knocking his opponent out or staggering them multiple times like Nik Lentz experienced. Aldo will have to be concerned about being taken down or not being in control of the center of the octagon, so there isnt much room to land his patent leg kicks. Unlike in the first fight, hell have to give great respect to Mendes severe knockout power.
