1. He Deserves Until At Least The End Of The Season
Even if you believe the situation at Everton to be dire, Martinez deserves a stay of execution until at least the end of term. The Blues dont look to be in relegation trouble, so what would sacking the Spaniard at this stage actually accomplish? Bringing in new management could help them finish the campaign on a high and challenge for Europe, but it could also have a destabilising effect. Theres enough quality at the club to reverse their fortunes, and if Martinez can tighten up his sides leaky defence, Lukakus goals coupled with the creativity of Barkley and Deulofeu will give them a strong chance of salvaging something from 2015-16. Martinez is a man with a strong track record in the transfer market, who knows how to nurture young talent and play a system where attack-minded players can flourish. Hes an ambitious young manager whos eager to build on his impressive first season in charge and challenge the top four in the future. Yes, there are issues that must be resolved before that can happen - defensive woes must be addressed and a new goalkeeper wouldnt go amiss - but with the fans on side and the right investment, theres no reason why Everton shouldn't aspire to be where the likes of Tottenham Hotspur are at the moment. Its a pivotal period in Evertons season, with the Blues looking equally likely to be sucked into a relegation dogfight as challenge for a place in Europe. Their fortunes between now and May could well determine Martinezs ultimate fate, but it would be a shame to have to say adios to Bobby Brown Shoes before then.
