5 Reasons Why MMA Will Surpass Boxing

3. MMA Is More Exciting

This is perhaps quite a controversial point and there is definitely a case to make for €˜lay and pray€™ wrestlers ruining the excitement of MMA. However on the whole I would much rather watch a top level mixed martial arts contest than its boxing equivalent. There is nothing more exciting than that moment when Bruce Buffer announces €˜It€™s Time!€™ and two martial artists prepare to compete to see who is superior. My memory of major boxing events has been scarred by dire undercards with fights designed to bulk up a young prospects record or a twelve round bore fest between two journeymen. The majority of MMA cards on the other hand are stacked full of exciting fights and often the fight of the night is an undercard fight. There are always exceptions, most recently UFC 149, yet on the whole a major MMA event wins hands down on excitement. MMA fights can at times contain moves which seem to have come straight out of a film. For example Anderson Silva€™s dismantling of Forrest Griffin or Lyoto Machida€™s frontkick knockout of Randy Couture are techniques which would seem more at place in the Matrix than in real life. Witnessing the most highly skilled fighters in the world compete in a multi disciplined fight is something that will always surpass two boxers competing purely with their fists.
