5 Reasons Why Sunderland Were Right To Sack Paolo Di Canio

2. Questionable Signings

Another area that Di Canio could be criticised for is the amount and the quality of the signings he made during the summer transfer window. With 14 players brought in and 13 shipped out, Sunderland's window activities could certainly not be classed as dull but whether that's what the side needed is very questionable. They certainly needed to strengthen after just surviving the previous season but quality more than quantity was probably the way to go. Jozy Altidore and Emanuele Giaccherini were the big money arrivals whilst Ki Sung-Yueng, Fabio Borini and Andrea Dossena all joined on loan. With Stephane Sessegnon and Simon Mignolet perhaps the club's two best players leaving to join fellow Premier League sides though it remains to be seen whether the players they have brought in are any better than either the players that have left or have remained meaning the acquisitions may not be seen as being worthwhile.
