5 Reasons Why Sunderland Were Right To Sack Paolo Di Canio

1. More Focus Upon Di Canio Than The Actual Club

DiCanio2 With Paolo Di Canio comes controversy and a media interest that means most of the time the focus is upon the manager rather than the club. If Di Canio does something people want to know about it and a post-match interview from him is going to generate more interest than other Premier League gaffers. Asking a typical Premier League football fan to name as many League One and League Two managers as they could they may struggle as their obviously isn't as much media interest on them as the top-flight but during Di Canio's time at Swindon we were constantly met with news stories and reaction on a weekly basis. From substituting his Goalkeeper off after just 21 minutes to having altercations with his players, Di Canio was never far away from the headlines whilst at the County Ground and ensured that Swindon received an amount of coverage that they would never dream about without the Italian being at the club. Having arrived at Sunderland and his appointment questioned due to his political views and history of fascism it was never going to be easy for Sunderland to remain the main news interest rather than Di Canio himself.
