5 Most Ridiculous Suggestions To Change The Way Football Works
4. "Attacker, Defender, Goalkeeper"
The 'Attacker, Defender, Goalkeeper' rule, or ADG for purposes of abbreviation, was dreamt up by Timothy Farrell back in 2008. Another alternative to the penalty shootout, ADG sees one striker from each side go up against a defender and a goalkeeper from the opposition and try to score - after starting on the halfway line - within a 30 second period. Each team nominates five attackers, five defenders and a goalkeeper with each side having five opportunities to score - just like a penalty shootout. Its brainchild, Farrell, claims this method would "promote skill, athleticism and fair play" and places more emphasis on strategy. But of course, there's one glaring problem - what happens if one side has had a player sent off, and are one defender short for one of the opposition's attempts?
