5 Sports Stars Who Got Into Hot Water Over Twitter

3. Ryan Bertrand

The first Chelsea left-back on this list (but not the last), Ryan Bertrand did little to endear himself to his followers after an angry rant over his involvement in the England squad left the youngster with his tail firmly between his legs. The defender was forced to pull out of England€™s match with San Marino, with initial reports suggesting that a sore throat was to blame for his absence. Bertrand tweeted: 'Just to clarify.... Its not a "sore throat" Im ill. swollen glands in my neck... And constant headache for 3 days now and freezin cold. 'Do you think a "sorethroat" could stop me being apart of a match for my club or country? #yourf******nuts this is what every boy dreams of.' Bertrand soon deleted the tweet and offered an apology to his 100,000+ followers. He said: 'sorry if i offended anyone by swearing as i don't encourage that type of language. was just disappointed at the thought of people thinking i only have a sore throat.. which is not the case.' This left England manager Roy Hodgson with a headache of his own, finding himself having to defend the young defender. €œI'm pleased to see he's apologised for it and it just reminds us how careful players of this profile have to be. €œI believe there's not really a question from the FA's point of view that he'll be charged but it's a lesson that needs to be learned and that we can all learn from.€ Hopefully a lemsip and a nice lie down cured Bertrand of his sudden outbreak of tourettes.
