5 Tactical Changes Crystal Palace Fans Can Expect This Season

3. Proactive Not Reactive

Over the past two years, Palace have tended to start deep and exploit weaknesses in the opposition, either through swift counter attacks or through their aerial prowess after winning free-kicks high up the pitch.

With the pacey Pape Souré looking to have a more settled run in the team, the Crystal Palace back four will have a distinctly pacier look about it and I think Palace fans can expect the team to push higher up the pitch and attempt a more proactive style, rather than the reactive one we have seen up till now. In the 2-0 defeat against Sporting Lisbon, there seemed to be a definite attempt to win and use the ball higher up the park, with Yohan Cabaye and Jason Puncheon looking to dictate the pace. It remains to be seen whether both can fit into Pardew's starting XI, but I would not be surprised to see Wilfried Zaha or Yannick Bolasie sacrificed against the sides they will look to dominate in favour of the intelligence on the ball that Puncheon has.

Against the big four or five this type of game won't be possible and that is where they would revert to the more traditional counter attacking style - utilising Bolasie and Zaha - but there are at least ten sides in the league that Palace will be looking to seize the initiative against.
