5 Things Manchester United Must Do In The Summer

4. Sign A New Left-Back

United are in desperate need of not only a new manger, but a fair few amount of new players. The current defence is leaking goals every game, with a certain left-back leaving gaping voids at the back. Patrice Evra has been a loyal servant to the club but age has caught up with him and he is clearly past his prime. In addition to the above he is out of contract in the Summer. Saying that, even if the Frenchman agreed a new contract, I still think they need a new left back. They currently have available either Evra, who is poor one-on-one and more of a winger, or Alexander Büttner, the very scrutinized former U-20 Dutch international who is clearly not a long-term successor of his counterpart. Neither of them fit into the required slot, so a transfer is needed. Two suggestions would be the highly rated Luke Shaw, or his English compatriot Leighton Baines. Both come with advantages and disadvantages. Shaw is very young, just 18 in fact, while Baines is older at 29, meaning that even if he was signed you could only get three good seasons out of him. Whoever they sign, they need to be up to the job.
