David Gill played a big part in Sir Alex's long tenure at United. He contributed to the clubs record revenues and helped the club in its takeover by the Glazier family in 2005 which pumped in large amounts of money despite its controversy. But early last year, he announced that he would be leaving his position to take up a director role and focus more on his position with the FA. Was this one of the reasons which persuaded Sir Alex to retire? Quite possibly, and since then the clubs transfers has been nothing short of shocking. I think this was down to Gill leaving and his position not being successfully continued. I think it is vital for the club that, if possible, they re-appoint him soon and bring back the work he done so well. A quick return would also ensure a smoother summer transfer window which is already looking a huge one for the club.
