The Red Devils overcame what seemed like an impossible situation and cancelled out Bayern Munichs opener in the final three minutes of the game with goals from Sheringham and Solskjaer. Bayern had led for 85 minutes after a Mario Basler free-kick caught Peter Schmeichel off guard and continued to dominate United for large proportions of the game but Ole Gunnar Solskjaers dramatic winner won them the Champions League to add to their Premier League and FA Cup crowns to make them the first ever European side to win thee treble.
