3. Edinson Cavani
Edinson Cavani is up there with the greatest strikers in world football at the moment, and when he revealed that he would like to leave Italian side Napoli, a whole heap of clubs were predictably in the hunt for the Uruguayan's signature. In the last campaign, Cavani scored an astonishing 29 goals in 34 league games, easily making him Serie A's top goalscorer. Several reports conflict with one another and it is not yet clear where Cavani is heading, though it remains sure that he
wishes to leave Napoli after finishing his third season with the club. Edinson has been mostly linked to Chelsea, though a recent report stated that his mother claimed the Uruguayan is in talks with both Real Madrid and Manchester City.
Monaco have also been linked with a bid (imagine a Cavani and Falcao strike partnership!), as have treble winners Bayern Munich and French champions Paris St. Germain. Edinson's contract with Napoli contains a
£53 million buy-out clause, which may be a sum of money that top European clubs will consider paying. Another key factor is that Chelsea may be looking to offload Fernando Torres and lack strikers anyhow, Madrid's
Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain have been linked with moves away and
Manchester City's Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez have similarly had an abundance of reports linking the Argentinian pair to a host of top clubs. The likes of Bayern Munich and Paris St. Germain, however, do not need to purchase a player up top so they are unlikely to compete with the aforementioned three. I predict that Cavani will indeed move away, and will not stay in Italy neither. Though he has claimed that he would be honoured to work under Mourinho's Chelsea or (if he is appointed) Pellegrini and his City side, I think the lure of Real Madrid's history and their need for a top striker to lead their line could be the key to what sees the Uruguayan's signature on the dotted line.
Chance of moving: 75%.
Where to: Chelsea are odds-on favourites; Manchester City and Real Madrid are in the hunt. I believe Real will sign him.
For how much: Cavani has a £53 million release clause, though Napoli may consider less.
