5 Ups & 3 Downs From NFL 2019 Live At Wembley
2. The Game Threatened To Get Competitive
That's when the game threatened to get competitive.
For the most fleeting of moments, Cincinnati gave the Rams a fright and showed they could joust with the big boys. Dalton and the rest of his troops weren't daunted by the LA flavour rippling through Wembley, and they shocked more than a handful when Joe Mixon ran in to score a crowd-pleasing touchdown.
That was the gist of an earlier 'down': Bengals' aren't a sustainable threat to teams like the Rams. They've got defensive beast Aaron Donald in their crew, and he was able to quickly snuff out the burgeoning running game Cincinnati were building. Without that, they limped to the finish line and eventually lost by 14 points.
Still, there was enough in the head-to-head to make it entertaining. Not many would've expected that before the first snap. When LA's wide receiver Josh Reynolds bagged the game's first touchdown, most got their Union Jack brollies out and expected it to rain points all over the Bengals. The fact that didn't happen is somehow pleasing from a neutral's perspective.
