5 Winners And 5 Losers From The Premier League Opening Weekend
4. Rio Ferdinand
Another player who suffered a less-than promising debut for his new team is Rio Ferdinand. The centre-back has joined Queens Park Rangers from Manchester United this summer and was making his first appearance for the newly-promoted club against fellow strugglers Hull City on Saturday. But it was a game to forget as QPR returned to the Premier League and a debut to forget for Ferdinand, who later took to Twitter to admit his mistake in the build-up to Hull's winning goal. The game was locked at 0-0 going into the second half until the ex-United man quite literally took his eye off the ball. By the time Ferdinand had looked where the ball was from an early second half corner, James Chester had already out-jumped him to muscle home a header was enough to claim the Tigers the three points and their first win over QPR at Loftus Road since 1963. The centre-back later admitted to his error on Twitter, writing: "Unlucky not to win the game after creating so many openings today...was my man for their goal. Not happy but there are positives to draw on." If Rangers are to avoid a descent back to the Championship this season they need to avoid conceding from silly set-pieced and a player of Ferdinand's experience should have known better to have such poor positional marking.
