5 Winners And 5 Losers From The Premier League Opening Weekend

5 Losers

5. Romelu Lukaku

Now we move on to the losers: the unfortunate five who will be desperately trying to erase all memory of the Premier League's opening weekend. A lot was expected of Everton's Romelu Lukaku following his big-money move from Chelsea this summer but, after becoming the Toffee's record signing, failed to show why they paid £28 million for his services against Leicester. Though Everton scored twice in a 2-2 draw with newly-promoted side, Lukaku wasn't able to assert himself on proceedings and had nothing to do with either of his new side's two goals against The Foxes. Despite scoring 15 league goals for the Merseyside club while on loan at Goodison Park last season, it looks as though it will take a while for the Belgian international to hit the ground running based off this showing. Lukaku was marked out of the game by Leicester's Wes Morgan and scarcely had a sniff of a chance on goal, with the plucky former Championship team shackling him effectively. It wasn't the full Premier League debut the striker would have wished to experience for his new club and hopefully things will only get better from hereon in.
