5 Winners And 5 Losers From The Premier League Opening Weekend
3. Sam Allardyce
If Eric Dier was the winner following West Ham's clash with Tottenham at the weekend, Sam Allardyce and his men were the losers. Both can feel hard done by after playing the better football of the two sides but when the final whistle blew following Dier's dramatic stoppage time clincher the stats show a defeat for the Hammers. It was precisely the sort of start to the season Allardyce would have wished to avoid following a calamitous end to the last one. 'Big Sam' is already on thin ice at Upton Park after a dismal end to last season in which he presided over a run of eight defeats in the Hammers' final 11 games and losses like this are hardly likely to boost his popularity stakes. Supporters were calling for Allardyce's head back in January with the London club flirting dangerously with relegation and he is already short odds to become the next managerial casualty of the new season following Tony Pulis's departure from Crystal Palace, according to some bookmakers. He will be hoping for a drastic turnaround in fortunes if he is still to be within a job by Christmas.
