The striker found the net twice in the group stages, with his goals helping Algeria reach the knockout stages of the tournament for the first time. Indeed his international record makes impressive reading, with 12 goals in just 24 games an example of the finishing prowess his possesses. His statistics are even more remarkable when you take into account that he did not earn his international debut until May 2012. Slimani moved to Sporting Lisbon last summer, where he endured a solid first season. The 26-year-old weighed in with eight goals during the campaign, including the winner in the derby against FC Porto. A threat in the air and capable of making dangerous runs off the last man, Slimani has been a key part of an Algerian side which has surprised many in Brazil. Prior to his move to Sporting Lisbon, the striker had been prone to losing his cool and red cards were not a rarity. However, his time in Portugal appears to have aided his maturity. So much so that
Stoke City and West Ham have already made enquiries about his availability this summer.
