6 Players You Didn't Know Almost Signed For Leeds

5. Peter Beardsley

Peter Beardsley was "the one who got away" twice at Leeds United, with The Whites being linked with a move for the England midfielder in 1983 and again in 1991. The first instance of him coming close to a move to Elland Road came during his days at Vancouver Whitecaps. Beardsley had ended a torrid time at Manchester United and moved to Canada, but was linked with a return to England almost immediately. The Englishman did return to Britain - after spending just one season with Vancouver - but not to join Leeds. United couldn't stump up the funds to make the deal happen and he instead ended up at Newcastle United, before completing a big-money move to Liverpool. As with United, his time at Anfield was something of a nightmare and when it became clear he was deemed surplus to requirements, rumours once more surfaced of a move to Leeds. The midfielder was supposedly buying a house locally and had been seen at Elland Road - but just when it looked as though he was going to become a White, he joined Liverpool's Merseyside rivals Everton instead.
