6 Things Man Utd Fans Need To Know About Marcos Rojo

1. But Could He Be The Next Juan Sebastian Veron?

As Manchester United fans prepare to welcome in their new signing, they may do so with a degree of trepidation. United, historically, have not had much success when it comes to Argentinians and their illustrious past has been scattered with failings from South America. Juan Sebastian Veron, Gabriel Heinze, Carlos Tevez. None of them worked out at Old Trafford and the last two tried to force through a move to a direct rival, with only the latter being successful in doing so. The similarities with Rojo and Veron are uncomfortably close. Both began their careers at Argentine side Estudiantes de La Plata and both joined United off the back of a successful World Cup with Argentina, with Veron providing the most assists in the 1998 finals, prompting Sir Alex Ferguson, like successor Louis van Gaal has with Rojo, to pay a huge sum for his services. Veron was of course a huge flop at the Theatre of Dreams and lasted just two seasons after failing to acclimatize with English football. He was named by The Times among the 50 worst ever transfers in Premiership history, and Rojo will be hoping that's where the similarities end.
