6 Most Underrated Premier League Players This Season
4. Gareth Barry (Everton)
When Manchester City decided the let Gareth Barry go out on loan to Everton, there were probably a few raised eyebrows among the football world. Here is a versatile English player that was a benchmark of City's Championship winning season, and to be deemed surplus to requirements seemed both questionable and odd. What was Manchester's loss was Merseyside's gain however, as the midfielder has been a linchpin to Everton's success this season, and may very well see Barry earn Champions League football for his new part time employers. 30 games, 3 goals and 4 assists are far from groundbreaking numbers, but it is the little things that Barry does so well. Barry is always in the top 5 players per game for interceptions, tackles and aerial duals, numbers which allow him to create opportunities for the Barkley's and Lukaku's to go and score. He is no frills, often playing simple, but always scoring a high passing accuracy in a possession based team. Whilst it is perhaps less surprising that people are not discussing his name as a potential call up for Roy Hodgson's world cup squad, it is expected that Martinez will work hard to try and bring Barry back to Goodison Park next season, ideally on a permanent deal.
