6 Most Underrated Premier League Players This Season

2. Fernandinho (Manchester City)

This season, City have played with a reckless abandon. Full backs flying forwards, attacking midfield players all over the place, and scoring goals for fun. When the dust settles on this season and the outcome of Pellegrini's first campaign, the Brazilian's contribution may get overlooked. However, City fans and tactical observers will know just how good this man is at what he does. When he hasn't played, City haven;t been as good. His ability to sit in and cover team mates helps defend City against Counter Attacks. His athleticism and engine allows him to play from box to box. His technical ability allows him to dictate play and control the game from a deeper position. His confidence allows him to be an out ball no matter what pressure he is under, and his understanding of the game means that when City are on top, he has the nouse to join in and create chances. He is like Claude Makelele 2.0. Yes, he was one of City's biggest signings this summer, and yes, he is a big name within his own right, but when people are talking about Yaya Toure, David Silva and Samir Nasri's contribution to City's campaign, Fernandinho's role has been of equal importance. A valid candidate for this award.
