6 Ways Pep Guardiola Will Turn Bayern Munich Into A Merciless Machine

3. A New Front Man

With the impending summer transfer window, rumours surrounding the Champions League finalists have been aplenty. One of the strong rumours is the capture of Borussia Dortmund-and-Poland star Robert Lewandowski for around £20 million, which would be another coup from one of the club's biggest domestic rivals. The in-demand striker has also been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea so despite the array of sources stating otherwise, the deal may not be on the cards. Mario Gomez is heavily rumoured to leave the club due to his lack of action; if Lewandowski was to join the club, he would become fourth in the pecking order so it is no wonder why Gomez is reluctant to stay. The ability that the German striker possesses shows the depth of the squad Guardiola will inherit, in this case a player who will struggle to make the bench is one which would be on the starting-11 of many of Europe's greatest. Another current Bayern forward may be forced to play a backseat role in the upcoming season - Claudio Pizarro. The Peruvian has started just nine games in all competitions thus far, with most of the striker's appearances coming off the bench, Pizarro has been crucial cover for Gomez and Mandzukic. However, at 34 years of age, the former Chelsea player's stint at Bayern is in its final phase after being brought back for a second stint in 2012. Pizarro will likely become the third, or possibly fourth, choice striker in the 2013-14 campaign and appearances will be rare for the Peru regular, however he is a talent which would be sorely missed if he decides to call it a day due to his prolific scoring rate in German football. Radamel Falcao, Wayne Rooney and Edinson Cavani are three alternatives which, similar to Lewandowski, could provide the missing piece to the puzzle. Although Bayern have enjoyed a successful and record-breaking campaign, the surplus of cash and demand for a new striker may result in Guardiola looking to invest in a new goalscorer. All four names mentioned have expressed a desire to leave their respective clubs, though the rumour mill suggests that they are all wanted by some of Europe's big clubs - from Manchester United and City, to Barcelona and Real Madrid.
