7 Contenders For PFA Young Player Of The Year 2019/20
5. James Maddison
Leicester City are undoubtedly the surprise packages of the year with Jamie Vardy's peerless run proving to be the catalyst, but James Maddison's contributions in the push for Champions League football is right up there too.
Prodigiously gifted, the 23-year old is the chief creative force that has kept the Foxes ticking. He has 75 chances to his credit, which is currently third-best in the league, and also leads in terms of crosses (202) from the squad.
Maddison has been at the heart of Leicester's proceedings, dictating the offensive play with his ingenuity and elegance on the ball. His set-piece prowess too, is second to none while no player in the Premier League has scored more from direct free-kicks than him (four) since the start of last season.
The English international seems to have unlocked an extra level or two under the tutelage of Brendan Rodgers to become the midfield metronome in his side. His work-rate is exemplary and despite carrying the creative burden of the team for most of the time, has managed to net six times himself, including big strikes against Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
With reports of Manchester United expressing interest in the star, it is fathomable why Leicester are keen to renew his contract.
