7 Takeaways From UFC 225
1. The End Of CM Punk's MMA Endeavour
Hopefully he hangs up his MMA gloves for good.
CM Punk made the move from WWE to MMA and first stepped in the cage nearly two years ago, when he suffered a 1st round defeat to Mickey Gall at UFC 203. Fans felt that the former wrestling star took a fight too soon and it seemed like he agreed, not fighting again until UFC 225.
Many thought that after spending so long training, Punk would come back a different animal but he didn’t. Mike Jackson picked him apart and after three hard to watch rounds, all three judges scored the contest 30-26 Jackson.
With a performance like that, it would be surprising to see Punk fight in the UFC again. At 39, he is way past his prime and after four solid years of training for him still to be putting in performances like he did, it is tough to see how he could improve to the point whereby he could realistically compete at the top level of MMA.
Bellator fighter and former Geordie Shore star Aaron Chalmers has been asking for the fight for some time now, and if Punk wants it, there is always the potential for him to move to Bellator to make it happen. But it seems his UFC days are done.
