7 Takeaways From UFC 225
2. Shoeys Made Their Long Awaited Return
Where do we start with this one?
A ‘Shoey’ consists of taking yours, or somebody else’s shoe, pouring an alcoholic drink inside of it and then proceeding to drink the entire beverage out of the shoe… oh yeah, and you let someone, or several people spit in the drink before you gulp it down. Apparently, doing a shoey is meant to bring good fortune to the person who performs it.
UFC Heavyweight Tai Tuivasa has made a tradition of every time he wins, doing a ‘shoey’. This continued after his unanimous decision victory over Andrei Arlovski at UFC 225. Once he had finished his post fight interview, he asked commentator Joe Rogan for his shoe.
Rogan refused to give the Australian his shoe, so he found somebody in the crowd who was willing to do so. He then poured a pint of beer into the shoe and skulled it, much to the delight of all in attendance at the United Centre.
