6. The Deal Looks Like Relative Good Value
In any transfer made in 2016, £4.5 million (or there abouts) is good value. Championship players are changing hands for considerably higher sums and, as an integral part of his Ligue 1 side and a mainstay in his national team, Henri Saivet won't have to do too much in a Newcastle shirt to merit that price tag. It's the money you pay for a nearly out of contract squad player, so if Saivet get merit a sustained run in the starting XI, he's already on the way to paying that back. Yet, in typical Newcastle fashion, it's still nearly £1 million more than was being quoted for his services this time last season. Even when the club appear to be getting something of a bargain they're still managing to pay over the odds it seems. Again contradicting the club's alleged standpoint that there's "no value to be had in January", whatever role Saivet ultimately has at the club he looks like a shrewd and low-risk investment. If he fulfils his sizeable potential, then he'll be lauded as one of the best buys the club have made from Ligue 1 but, if not, then the money they recoup on a player still in his prime would at the very least be approaching break-even.
